Statoil has kicked off production from the Byrding oil and gas field in the North Sea.
The field is expect to yield about 11 million barrels of oil equivalent, processed through the Troll C platform.
It has cost about NOK 1billion (£100million) to develop, down from original estimates of £340million.
Gunnar Nakken, senior vice president for the operations west cluster in Statoil, said: “Good utilisation of existing infrastructure has resulted in a cost-effective development that will add profitable resources to the Troll field.”
Statoil increased its share in Byrding from 45% to 70% when it acquired Wintershall Norge’s share of 25% in October 2016.
Statoil holds 70% of the field, Engie E&P Norge has 15% and Idemitsu Petroleum Norge is on 15%.
