The Oil and Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) in Aberdeen has appointed Roger Esson as Decommissioning Solution Centre manager.
Mr Esson is currently the chief executive of Decom North Sea and has over 20 years’ experience of working within leadership positions within the oil and gas sector internationally.
He has worked on numerous projects, including several major decommissioning projects such as the North West Hutton and Brent Delta.
Mr Esson will work in collaboration with industry and technology sectors within his role to “accelerate the pace of new technologies to drive value and efficiency in this growing area of the industry”.
OGTC chief executive Colette Cohen said: “We’re delighted to welcome Roger to the OGTC leadership team to lead our Decommissioning Solution Centre. He has a wealth of industry experience, deep knowledge on decommissioning and excellent relationships across the sector.
“Our priority is to work in partnership with the industry and technology providers to develop and deploy technologies that help extend the production life of UKCS fields and help deliver the goal of reducing decommissioning costs by 35%.
“We look forward to Roger joining us in the coming months.”
OGTC opened earlier this year and will be supported with £180million worth of Aberdeen City Region Deal funding.
