Petrochemicals giant Ineos said today that oil flow in the Forties pipeline will return to normal rates “through the weekend”.
The company revealed yesterday that pressure in the pipeline had been lowered after a leak was identified at Red Moss of Netherley, near Aberdeen.
Ineos said a number of residents had been evacuated from the area.
Ineos, which completed its acquisition of the pipeline system from BP in October, said the people had been offered temporary accommodation.
The Netherley to Cookney road was shut and a 300-metre cordon was set up around the site.
Forties carries almost 40% of the UK’s North Sea oil and gas output.
Also yesterday, Ineos said flaring had been taking place at the Kinneil terminal as the company worked to start up operations following a glitch.
Kinneil, adjacent to Ineos’s Grangemouth refinery and chemical plant, was also bought from BP.
A spokesman for Ineos said today: “Kinneil continues to ramp up rates and the work at Red Moss is moving forwards well.
“It is expected that rates will be back to normal through the weekend.”
