The Rowan Viking drilling rig has been selected for a plugging and abandonment programme for Shell’s Goldeneye platform in the Central North Sea.
Rowan Companies, based in Houston, said the work is set to commence in June and will last for around 100 days, following completion of the vessel’s current work with Lundin Norway.
The Rowan Viking is an N-class ultra-harsh environment jack up rig.
Goldeneye lies around 81 miles north-east of Aberdeen.
The work is for a five-well programme on the Goldeney. President and chief executive officer of Rowan, Tom Burke, said: “”The Goldeneye contract further strengthens our relationship with Shell and we are pleased with the added backlog for one of our ultra-harsh environment jack-ups.
“We are collaborating closely with our customer to deliver safe, efficient and reliable operations.”
