Aberdeen-based Awilco Drilling has been hit with an improvement notice from the health and safety executive (HSE) after a crewmember was injured on a North Sea platform.
The HSE says a worker received a hand injury on the WilPhoenix semi-submersible rig in February.
It happened while replacing a seawater valve, when a wire sling became entangled with a moving blade, which resulted in the injury.
The crewmember was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.
HSE says insufficient risk assessment was carried out for the task, and Awilco has been given until June 30th to comply with the notice.
It states: “When replacing seawater valve in mud pit 1 the wire sling became entangled on the moving agitator blade resulting in the IP suffering hand injury. Insufficient risk assessment for the task.”
A spokeswoman for Awilco Drilling said: “We acknowledge the findings of the HSE inquiry, which started on 8 February 2018, after a crewmember of the Awilco Drilling plc WilPhoenix drilling rig incurred a hand injury.
“The crew member was transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment and was discharged after receiving treatment.
“Awilco Drilling’s primary goal is safe and efficient operations, with no accidents, injuries, environmental incidents or damage to assets and this is core to our ongoing work and training.”
