A gas leak has shut down production on Chevron’s Alba Northern platform 130 miles from Aberdeen.
The stoppage took place on Saturday at 5:50pm when gas bubbles were spotted on the surface of the water surrounding the structure.
The 124 strong workforce are said to be safe and well and no personnel have been removed.
Production has not resumed since the discovery of the gas bubbles as an investigation is carried out.
Chevron said the coastguard and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) had been notified.
