Umbilicals International (UI), part of Seanamic Group, has opened a new facility in Rosyth at is looks to continue growth in the oil and gas market.
The firm, which is based in Texas, will use the facility in Rosyth in Fife to support commercial diving operations, as well as targeting North Sea decommissioning.
UI, which designs, manufactures and tests subsea umbilicals, said around £500,000 worth of investment is planned for new equipment at the site over time.
It will initially have three employees, with plans for up to 20 in the next 18 months.
The site is close by to sister firms IMES International and Caley Ocean Systems, which it says will help create an “international sales base” for Seanamic.
Charlie Backhouse, general manager for Umbilicals International in the UK, said: “It’s a great location to be in with a highly skilled workforce. It provides a group international sales base. We will be selling and supporting current products and new products certainly in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Far East. Our first order was shipped to Singapore last week.
“The global diving market is key to us, the global seismic market and the normal oil and gas base, with a particular focus on the decommissioning side of things, well decommissioning, etc.”
The firm said it decided not to go to Aberdeen for the site due to the opportunity presented by having close proximity to others in the Seanamic Group.
Martin Barnes, CEO of the Seanamic Group, said: “The close proximity between Umbilicals International and IMES International will allow both companies to share aspects of their business, including personnel and equipment.
“This new facility builds on the 360° offering which Seanamic brings to the market: design, manufacture, testing and integrity management. Operating conditions may be improving, but companies still need agile, integrated and flexible solutions – this new facility helps us provide that.”
