Equinor said today that its new North Sea oil discovery could contain up to 35 million barrels of oil.
The Norwegian energy giant was drilling the Lille Prinsen well in the Utsira High area of the Norwegian North Sea.
Nicholas Ashton, Equinor’s senior vice president, exploration, Norway & UK, said: “We are very pleased to announce the first Equinor discovery.
“This is a good discovery which we expect will be commercial. In addition, the results from the drilling indicate an upside potential in this discovery.”
Equinor’s project partners are Lundin and Spirit Energy.
The Lille Prinsen well is located 200 kilometres west of Stavanger and north-west of the Johan Sverdrup field.
