The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has announced operator Equinor as started production on the Visund Nord North Sea facility.
The project was completed in 21 months and will add 13.3 million barrels to the Visund field.
The development cost of the project was £119 million.
Visund was proven in 1986, and the Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) was approved in 1996.
The field is developed with a semi-submersible integrated living quarters, drilling and process facility in steel (Visund A).
Production started in 1999.
Tone Kristin Børslid, project director, said: “We are delivering well within the downward adjusted budget. The project has a competitive break-even price and will be profitable even with an oil price well below the current level.”
The investment decision for the Visund Nord IOR project was made in 2013.
The development comprised a subsea template ten kilometres north of the Visund A facility and up to four wells.
