North Sea drillers have made a £6,500 donation to the RNLI lifeboat station in Aberdeen.
The cash will go towards the station’s operating costs for its recently commissioned “Buoy Woody” lifeboat and its all-weather “Bon Accord” vessel.
Aberdeen Lifeboat Station needs to raise around £250,000 per year to train and equip the 25 volunteer crew members and maintain the lifeboats themselves.
It comes in a week when the team had to respond to four call-outs in less than 24 hours.
Aberdeen lifeboat operations manager Bill Deans said: “The IADC have been very generous over the years in supporting the RNLI’s work of saving lives at sea in Aberdeen.
“This donation from the North Sea drilling industry will make a significant contribution to vital equipment and training for Aberdeen’s volunteer lifeboat crews.”
Gary Holman, vice chair of the IADC North Sea chapter, said: “On behalf of our members we are pleased to be able to support the work of RNLI in Aberdeen.
“We have great admiration for the remarkable volunteers who give up so much of their time to make this service possible.“
