An oil and gas industry veteran will retire upon leaving the sector’s regulator next year.
Gunther Newcombe will step down from the role of operations director at the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) at the end of March 2020.
He was one of the first people appointed to the organisation’s senior leadership team in 2015.
The OGA said Mr Newcombe’s impact on the industry had been “vast” and that he would be “enormously missed”.
The regulator intends to hire a new operations director by the end of 2019 and said that Mr Newcombe would assist with the handover, ensuring a “smooth transition”.
Mr Newcombe, a geologist, spent most of his 40-plus year career at BP, where he occupied numerous senior roles, both in the UK and overseas.
OGA chief executive Andy Samuel thanked Mr Newcombe for his “incredible contribution” and wished him well in retirement.
