North Sea oil firm i3 Energy said today that the Borgland Dolphin semi-submersible drilling rig has started drilling a well on the Liberator field in the outer Moray Firth.
The company, based in Westhill, near Aberdeen, said the appraisal well results would help pick an optimal location for the future LP-02 production well.
The rig will also drill appraisal wells on the Liberator West extension and the nearby Serenity prospect.
The London-listed company believes more than 200 million barrels of oil could be produced from its licences.
Majid Shafiq, CEO of i3 Energy, said: “We are excited to now be on location and drilling the first of three high impact wells into our 100% owned Liberator and Serenity structures and look forward to updating the market as each well objective is achieved.”
