First Marine Solutions (FMS) has appointed a new director to strengthen its position in the North Sea and global oil and gas markets.
The mooring services provider has taken on Darren Rendall as its technical director, a 20-year industry veteran who has spent the last nine in management positions at rival InterMoor.
FMS, which was established in 2008 to provide mooring equipment for global drilling operations, has created the new role for Mr Rendall.
It comes off the heels of the Bridge of Don-based firm winning a eight-figure mooring equipment contract for BP in the North Sea last year, with FMS “firmly establishing itself as one of the leading suppliers in the market”.
On his appointment, Mr Rendall said: “I am looking forward to strengthening FMS’ position within the market with the addition of marine and engineering service lines.
“FMS has already proven its ability to support clients with its equipment-based services and I have no doubt with our experienced team we will achieve the same success.”
The three-year deal with BP began in July across all of its assets in the UK North Sea.
FMS employs around 15 people, providing a range of marine, technical, positioning and mooring equipment services, with products available for sale and rental.
The company is part of oil tycoon Ian Suttie’s First Tech Group, which also comprises Aberdeen firms First Integrated Solutions, First Competence, Mooring Systems and Lancaster-based First Subsea.
The firm has also appointed Marc Petty, formerly of KCA Deutag and Intermoor, as marine manager.
FMS’ managing director, Steven Brown, said: “Both Darren and Marc’s appointments are a fantastic boost for our growing team – I am confident their wealth of experience within the marine and mooring sector will help ensure the success of our marine and engineering service within FMS.
“We have had a fantastic year, with a number of strategic contract awards, and I look forward to Darren and Marc supporting the development of this service.”
