The UK’s health and safety watchdog is making “initial inquiries” after a generator overheated on the FPF-1 platform in the central North Sea.
Petrofac, which is duty holder for the vessel, which is stationed on Ithaca Energy’s Stella field, said no one had been injured and that the generator had been removed.
A spokeswoman said the incident on July 16 took place during a planned shutdown of the platform.
She said: “A standalone rental generator overheated causing localised damage to the generator’s own container unit.
“The unit’s fire suppression system automatically activated, preventing escalation.”
The spokeswoman added that Petrofac was working closely with the equipment supplier and the HSE to undertake a “detailed investigation into the cause”.
An HSE spokesperson said: “HSE is aware of the incident and is making initial inquiries.”
