Jersey Oil & Gas said yesterday it had identified a “significant” new prospect in the central UK North Sea.
Wengen, located on Licence P2170, directly west of the producing Tweedsmuir field, is believed to have 60 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) of “probable” technically recoverable resource.
Announcing the results of a subsurface evaluation across its licensed acreage, Jersey said four prospects – Verbier Deep, Cortina NE, Zermatt and Wengen – had been matured to drill-ready status, potentially offering recoverable resources of 222m boe.
Subject to funding, a drilling campaign is planned from 2022. Any future development would be via the planned Greater Buchan Area (GBA) facility.
London-listed Jersey boss Andrew Benitz said: “A discovery at any one of these prospects would have the potential to extend the GBA production plateau.”
