A new North Sea boss will be taking up the reins on an interim basis at UK oil and gas giant BP (LON: BP) from next month.
The supermajor confirmed on Tuesday that Emeka Emembolu will be leaving the Aberdeen-based role to become chief of staff to company chief executive Bernard Looney.
Mr Emembolu will take up the new role on March 1.
He will be replaced as senior vice president North Sea on an interim basis by Doris Reiter, BP’s current vice president subsurface North Sea and Angola.
Mr Emembolu, who was born in Glasgow but left at a young age, has been at BP for 23 years, joining the company after graduating from Sheffield University with a degree in biochemical engineering.
He kicked off off his career in the North Sea on the ETAP platform, around 140 miles east of the Granite City.
Since then his career with the London-listed firm has taken him to Angola, Alaska, North Africa and the US, where he has worked in a range of technical and leadership roles.
He took up the position as BP’s boss for the North Sea on July 1, 2020, moving to Aberdeen from Houston – where he was vice-president of reservoir development, Gulf of Mexico and Canada – to replace Ariel Flores.
During his time in charge of the region Mr Emembolu has been praised for helping to improve the stability and profitability of BP’s operations.
The supermajor also said he and his team have “paved the way for a bright future” for hydrocarbons and low carbon operations in one of its “key regions”.
Doris Reiter
Like Mr Emembolu, Ms Reiter has also spent 23 years at BP, beginning her career with Arco in Dallas, US.
She has worked in a variety of technical and leadership positions, predominantly in the US and the UK, as well as in a number of global subsurface roles.
In addition to her deep technical expertise in subsurface, Ms Reiter has a “strong drive” for business simplification and value delivery – she is also committed to developing future leaders, BP said.
Away from work, Ms Reiter lives in Aberdeen with her two sons, Nicolas and Dominic, and her husband Richard.
In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, cooking, skiing, playing tennis with her kids and reading.
BP confirmed that her replacement as VP subsurface North Sea and Angola would be the subject of a further announcement.
