A leader from the Ukraine energy sector will deliver an address at a major North Sea industry conference in Aberdeen this month.
Mavriky Kalugin, chief operating officer at Ukrainian national oil and gas company Naftogaz, will speak at the Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) conference.
He will present ‘A report from the Frontlines of Geopolitics and Uncertainty’ as one of three key speakers in the Security of Supply panel session.
Mr Kaligin will be joined on the panel Simon Sjothun, partner at Rystad Energy, and Ellis Renforth, senior vice president of upstream at engineering giant Wood.
OEUK set up a resilience group in response to the invasion of Ukraine, bringing industry together to consider strategic aspects of security of supply and deliver operational improvements to increase UK production, meanwhile making the case for a managed transition to net zero.
Mark Wilson, the trade body’s HSE director, said: “The ability of a nation to secure sufficient and consistent energy supplies for its domestic, industrial and transport requirements is vital to ensure economic stability and right now we are living through a time of geopolitical uncertainty.
“Our industry has helped to provide the UK with secure safe energy for the past 50 years and through building a shared long-term vision, we can do the same for the next few decades – while also underpinning the delivery of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.”
The conference is themed on the North Sea Transition Deal signed last year, and will consider major elements of the deal including CCS, hydrogen, supply decarbonisation, supply chain transformation and people and skills.
The OEUK 2022 conference will take place at the P&J live in Aberdeen on May 24.
Also delivering speeches at the conference will be Linda Cook, CEO of operator Harbour Energy, and Andy Samuel, the outgoing CEO of the North Sea Transition Authority.
