VIDEO: ‘Absolutely game-changing’ – MPs tour Aberdeen South Harbour
New footage shared by Port of Aberdeen shows progress at its South Harbour expansion project, recently visited by a delegation of MPs, MSPs and councilllors.
Late November saw the Port of Aberdeen welcome a cross-party group of political stakeholders to see first-hand the size and scale of its £400m South Harbour development.
The delegation included the SNP’s new Westminster leader Stephen Flynn MP, and north-east Conservative MSP Liam Kerr.
Covid-19 and supply chain delays have seen the project blow past its original timetable, however construction work at the site is now more than 90% complete and as of early November, around 60% of the development is operational.
Bosses said last month the scheme was on track to reach around 80% by the end of the year.
Over 45 vessels have berthed at South Harbour since July, supporting oil and gas, renewable and general cargo operations.
Construction is scheduled to complete in Q2 2023, with the addition of Balmoral Quay – a milestone that will make Aberdeen the largest berthage port in Scotland.
Mr Kerr said the development would be “transformative on so many levels” for the local economy and for the UK’s wider net zero ambitions.
