Sweden’s Lundin Petroleum has commenced drilling its latest exploration well 200km off the Norwegian coast.
The Neiden prospect well 7220/6-2 is located in the northern part of production licence 609, 60km north east of the Alta discovery.
Lundin estimates the Neiden prospect to have the potential to contain unrisked, gross prospective resources of 204million barrels of oil equivalents.
The planned total depth is approximately 1,350m below mean sea level and the well is being drilled using the drilling rig Island Innovator. Drilling is expected to take approximately 40 days.
Lundin holds 40% working interest in PL609. Partners are DEA and Idemitsu Petroleum with 30% working interest each.
