Wood Group Mustang’s president in Norway said the company has received 1800 applications for just 250 positions to work on a major contract win from Statoil.
Otto Soberg said the firm had an overwhelming response for the vacancies..
Last month, Statoil awarded the company a six-year deal for contracts on Snorre A and B, Grane and Visund.
The deal had a value of $400million and will allow Wood Group Mustang to participate in new competitive contracts on individual projects in Statoil’s portfolio.
Soberg told Norwegian media the new jobs would be split between Bergen and Stavanger.
He said while the volume of applications were high, the company would make sure it provided those seeking a role with feedback regardless of success.
The boss said the company was looking forward to the start of the new contracts.
Last year, the Wood Group award forced Aker Solutions to issue a job loss warning.
At the time, the company had been the main supplier of maintenance and modifications services for Statoil-operated fields in Norway.
However, the firm missed out on any sort of the stake of the contract win. Aker’s boss branded the move “disappointing”. A total of 900 of Aker’s jobs depended on the historic contract.
