Shell has been granted consent to drill an exploration well in the Norwegian section of the North Sea.
The well will be used to investigate the Tyttebær prospect, around 80miles west of the coastal town of Norway.
Shell has been granted permission by Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority.
The firm has contracted the Scarabeo 8 semi-submersible drilling rig for the work, operated by Saipem Norge.
Drilling will begin between June and August, and will last for around 92 days if hydrocarbons are proved.
