Wintershall has been granted permission to drill an exploration well at the Marisko prospect in the Norwegian Sea.
The German oil firm is operator of the license with a 40% stake, partnered with Repsol, OMV and Equinor with 20% each.
Norway’s Petroleum Directorate has granted permission for the work, to be carried out by the Transocean Spitsbergen rig.
Winrerssall has already given consent by the country’s safety regulator to drill the well.
The work is estimated to last 61 days, or 93 days if a discovery is made.
Marisko lies four miles north-west of the Hvitveis discovery, which is also operated by Wintershall.
