There were six exploration wells active offshore Norway as of December 30. One well was completed, and three were spudded in December.
North Sea
Equinor spudded the 15/3-12 S Sigrun East well on December 3 using the West Phoenix semi-submersible. The well is targeting a Middle Jurassic Hugin Formation reservoir with additional targets in the Upper Jurassic Draupne Formation. The well is expected to complete in c. 70 days.
Equinor spudded the 31/5-7 Eos well on December 2 using the West Hercules semi-submersible. It is the first exploration well on the NCS to target a water-wet reservoir and will test the reservoir for carbon sequestration properties as part of the Northern Lights project.
ConocoPhillips spudded the 25/7-8 S Enniberg well on November 13 using the Leiv Eiriksson semi-submersible rig. The well is targeting pre-drill resources of 69 mmboe.
MOL Norge spudded the high-impact 25/8-19 S Iving/Evra well on November 2 using the Deepsea Bergen. The JV is targeting combined resources of 181 mmboe. The well has an estimated dry hole duration of 42 days.
Following the initial Echino Sor exploration well 35/11-23, which made an oil and gas discovery, Equinor kicked off a sidetrack to this well, 35/11-23 A, on November 7. This encountered the same Sognefjord Formation intervals that were encountered in 35/11-23. Preliminary resources were revised from 38-101 mmboe after the initial well to 44-101 mmboe.
Norwegian Sea
On December 1, Wintershall Dea spudded the 6604/6-1 Gullstjerne well using the Scarabeo 8 semi-submersible.
Wintershall DEA spudded the 6406/3-10 Bergknapp exploration well on 8 November using the West Mira semi-submersible. The well is targeting pre-drill resources of 30-60 mmbbl.
On October 28, DNO spudded the Canela 6507/7-16 S exploration well using the Island Innovator rig. It was targeting 70-120 mmboe. The well encountered a 171ft gas column. Preliminary resources were estimated at 6-12.6 mmboe. The well completed after 51 days.
