Wood has been appointed as capital delivery partner for Esseco UK’s chemical production facility in Wakefield.
The five-year contract will see Aberdeen-headquartered services group draw on asset maintenance and operations expertise to increase efficiency and support production growth at the facility.
Under the site capital plan, Wood will deliver engineering, procurement and construction services to the UK arm of Italian chemicals group Esseco, with a scope that includes upgrades and modifications to ensure reliability and enhance productivity.
Esseco UK was founded in 1878 and still operates from its original site in Wakefield. It produces a range of sodium, ammonium and potassium derivatives for industrial use in sectors such as water treatment, oil and gas and agriculture.
Wood said the latest award supports its diversification efforts and positions it for further growth as it looks to expand operations in industrial clusters across the Yorkshire region.
The contract will be delivered through the company’s Darlington office, drawing on support from the local supply chain.
President of operations for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Craig Shanaghey said: “We are delighted to have secured this new contract with Esseco UK which will see Wood apply our decades of experience in reliable and intelligent operations, maintenance and modifications to support the development and manufacturing of key products in the chemicals sector.
“This contract marks another significant step in leveraging our engineering capability and cross-sector experience to diversify our portfolio into markets where we can truly add value for our clients and partners. We look forward to building our relationship with Esseco UK to enhance productivity and performance at their Wakefield facility and enable their continued growth.”
Esseco UK Site Director Ruggero Pellegrin added: “In Wood, we see the ideal partner to strengthen our site in a sustainable way, ensuring that we have access to the best professionals and technologies to design, build, operate, and maintain our assets. This will generate the maximum value for the wider community.”
