Greenpeace has erected a life-like drilling rig outside the Houses of Parliament in London.
The environmental pressure group installed a 10-metre high unit in Parliament Square to coincide with the first day into a hearing on whether fracking should take place in Lancashire.
A five-week inquiry Is being held to assess whether Cuadrilla should have the right to carry out hydraulic fracturing across a number of licences.
A spokesman for Greenpeace said: “The rig emits a realistic flame which is firing up every hour using bio ethanol, while flood lighting and the sound effects of drilling and lorries are reverberating around the House of Commons.”
#fracking doesn't sound or look fun does it!? Then keep it out of our National Parks! @GreenpeaceUK pic.twitter.com/5XTxJ3VRWP
