US Intelligence has disputed claims by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump over Islamic State’s (IS) activities in Libya.
According to reports, the business tycoon said the terrorist group has been “making millions of dollars a week selling Libyan oil”.
However, it is said to not match US Intelligence assessments of the group’s activities in the North African country.
While IS is said to have taken over the city of Sirte and carried out a number of deadly attacks in the country and made territorial gains near the nation’s “oil crescent” it has not seized any major oil ports.
A US official told the Washington Times oil revenue had been a key component of the group’s economic viability but dismissed the idea that IS was already drawing huge revenues from Libyan oil sales.
