EDF will hold a meeting later today where it will decided whether or not to approve investment in the Hinkley Point nuclear plant.
The French utility is financing most of the £18billion project.
If approved, it will be the UK’s first nuclear plant in more than 20 years.
EDF has said it hopes to have more than 2,500 workers on site by next year.
Hinkley Point C is expected to provide 7% of the UK’s total electricity requirement.
