A new pro-shale gas group has been launched in England.
The “Lancashire for shale” group is made up of nearby businesses and residents who believe it will offer new investment and opportunities for the region.
More than 95 business leaders and residents signed a letter calling on decision-makers at both a national and local level to ensure Lancashire does not “miss out” on the opportunities for jobs and investment.
According to the Blackpool Gazette, David Haythornwaite who has provided funding for the group, said: “Lancashire for shale will hopefully speak for the majority of Lancashire residents and businesses.
“I believe that most people recognise that the development of shale will be good for jobs and economic growth in the county but critically right here on the Flyde Coast.
“The exploration and potential development of natural gas from shale presents a once in a generation opportunity which we must not miss.”
