Statoil said yesterday that it had temporarily suspended an employee who is being investigated by Norwegian police on suspicion of “serious corruption”.
Police decided to take up the case after Statoil passed information about the employee to law enforcement, the energy major said in an online statement.
Furthermore, police are investigating an employee of Norsk Helikopterservice, also on suspicion of corruption.
Statoil said the circumstances had convinced it to cancel a letter of intent with Norsk Helikopterservice for a backup search and rescue (SAR) helicopter.
The company said it had enough SAR capacity to cope without the backup.
It has no other activities with Norsk Helikopterservice, which is based near Stavanger.
