Vessel owner Transocean said today it would scrap two of its rigs.
Transocean said the MG Hulme, Jr and the GSF 140 were classified as held for sale and would be “recycled in an environmentally responsible manner”.
The company faces a hefty bill after its Transocean Winner vessel ran aground on the Western Isles while being towed to Turkey for scrapping last year.
In fleet status report, Transocean said it had a contract backlog of $11.3billion as of yesterday.
The ultra-deepwater drillship Deepwater Conqueror started work on a 5-year contract in the Gulf of Mexico at a dayrate of $589,000.
Meanwhile, the charter of its Deepwater Asgard was terminated early, earning Transocean $79million in compensation.
