The author of new book ‘Frackopoly’ is to speak at an event in Edinburgh on Saturday.
Wenonah Hauter, who is the executive director of Food and Water Watch US, has released the book to chronicle the rise of fracking in the US and the movement against it.
Friend’s of the Earth Scotland’s director Dr Richard Nixon said: “We’re delighted to have Wenonah joining us to share her experiences from the frontline of the fight against fracking. Her vast experience and leadership of an organisation committed to stopping this dirty, dangerous industry can help people here in our own efforts to stop this new frontier of fossil fuels.
“Together we’ll be discussing Scotland’s experience with unconventional oil and gas and exploring ways in which communities can demonstrate solidarity with each other. The clear warnings from the disastrous impact of fracking on communities in the US should be heeded by decision makers in Scotland as they assess the results of our recent public consultation.”
The book looks at alleged corruption and greed used by oil and gas companies to gain political power.
The author will also participate in a panel discussion with those opposed to fracking in Scotland.
An ongoing moratorium is in place for fracking in Scotland.
A Scottish Government consultation to gather the public’s view on the practice closed at the end of May.
