Aberdeen-based McMenon Engineering Services, a subsidiary of McMenon Associates, has today announced the purchase of ABB’s manufacturing base at Workington, Cumbria.
The facility has been bought for an undisclosed sum but will see the facility add to staff numbers.
The deal sees McMenon increase the workforce from 52 to 60, with seven staff added in Cumbria and one in Aberdeen.
The Workington facility specialises in differential pressure (DP) flow and temperature measurement products.
Anand Puthran, CEO and founder at McMenon Engineering Services, said: “Acquiring the Workington facility from ABB, a leading power and automation technology group, is a major milestone for McMenon Engineering Services. Furthermore, being granted ‘preferred supplier’ status by ABB instantly places us amongst the top suppliers in the flow and temperature measurement instrumentation market.”
The acquisition included investment from Shiby Bernard and Shiv Nair, directors of the McMenon Board, and was facilitated by Simon Cowie, managing director at Aberdeen-based Accountancy firm, Infinity Partnership.
Puthran added: “The acquisition of the facility by McMenon will bolster the Workington facility’s existing capabilities, workforce skillset and, fundamentally, support and develop the facility as it diversifies into other sectors, including chemical processing, aerospace, defence, nuclear, food and beverage. We believe the growth for our newly-acquired facility is huge.”
