A recent Which? customer satisfaction survey ranked the big six energy companies at the bottom of the league table, as consumers in Scotland switch to alternative energy suppliers like Our Power and Co-op Energy.
Yesterday, Centrica, owner of Scottish and British Gas, posted a substancial drop in profits and customers.
Duncan Thorp of Social Enterprise Scotland said:“Consumers are sick and tired of poor customer service, expensive energy tariffs and businesses that put shareholder profits before the needs of customers. The dominance of the big six energy suppliers is in decline and energy users are discovering the social enterprise and ethical alternatives.
Late last year, it was revealed that around 4 million “vulnerable” households would hand over nearly £500 million more than needed to the Big Six energy suppliers in 2017 due to being trapped on expensive tariffs.
The stats, compiled by renewable energy supplier Bulb, found that despite the introduction of a new emergency price cap for 1million homes, 3.9million vulnerable households will miss out.
Thorp added: “In addition we have local communities across Scotland generating their own renewable energy, ensuring that profits directly benefit local areas. It’s easy for consumers to make the switch to better energy and put people and planet before shareholder profits.”
