Aberdeen-based firm Wood has been showcasing the support it could offer businesses in the far north working in the energy sector.
The engineering and technical services company is inviting firms from the area to take advantage of its newly launched Wood Nuclear Innovation Fund.
The fund is now open for applications from small- and medium-sized enterprises with innovative ideas to make
nuclear decommissioning faster, cheaper and safer.
Alan Ruiz, operations manager of Wood’s civil nuclear team, discussed the opportunities available to the local supply chain to work with it on the design and engineering framework it has with Dounreay site licence company DSRL.
Richard Munro, Wood’s technical assurance manager, also gave an update on how companies could get involved in the oil and gas market.
The presentations were made at a business breakfast hosted by Caithness Chamber of Commerce in Thurso’s Pentland Hotel.
Chamber chief executive, Trudy Morris, said: “The chamber works hard to ensure that local supply chain companies are given the opportunity to engage with major contractors.
“Many productive discussions were had during the one-to-one and networking sessions.”
Wood’s Nick Higginson said: “This was a great opportunity for us to engage with the local Caithness supply chain and to explain how SMEs can apply for support from our innovation fund as part of an overview of our work in the nuclear and oil and gas sectors.”
