Energy regulator Ofgem has launched a funding consultation on a proposed £205million improvement of a grid in the western coast of Scotland.
The investment would reinforce the electric network between the Kintyre peninsula and Hunterston Power Station.
If approved, Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission would deliver two subsea cables to reinforce the link between the Kintyre peninsula and the rest of the transmission system in Scotland by 2016.
Existing overhead lines between Crossaig and Carradale would be upgraded while Crossaig would also gain a new substation.
The consultation is the first under Ofgem’s new Strategic Wider Works (SWW) programme which considers funding for projects on case by case basis as a price control measure.
The programme, planned to run until 2021, operates a £30billion package for transmission companies’ projects.
