The family of the Inverness victim of the helicopter crash said last night that his death had left a “deep void” in their lives.
Father-of-two Gary McCrossan, who lived at Woodlands Place in Inverness with his partner Fiona, worked at the Global Energy Park at Nigg before going offshore.
The 59-year-old, who recently became a grandfather, also ran his own welding company.
Mr McCrossan’s family said: “A deep void has been left in our lives. Gary was a loving fiance – long-time partner to Fiona, devoted father to Niki and Freya, grandpa to Cohen, loving brother to Maureen, Frank and Kenny and best friend and confidant to many.
“He was a fun, loving guy who was full of life, a great storyteller – who always kept you guessing.”
Mr McCrossan was working for Stork Technical Services when he died.
Heather Milne, of Stork Technical Services, said: “We are extremely sad to lose Gary and our thoughts and support continue to be with the family at this very difficult time.
“Gary will be sadly missed by all in the industry, and at Stork, who knew and worked with him.”
Meanwhile, workers at one of the Highland’s main construction sites have paid tribute to Mr McCrossan.
Hundreds of his former colleagues at Nigg downed tools during the night shift on Saturday and day shift on Sunday.
Alastair Kennedy, of Global Energy, said: “When the workforce heard that Gary was involved, out of respect everybody felt it was right to come off shift.”
