Around 50,000 delegates attending a major international oil and gas show will be treated to some of the best seafood from the north-east.
Aberdeenshire Council is working with Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) to promote the benefits and quality of locally-produced food at the Offshore Europe (OE) 2013 event, which starts tomorrow and runs until Friday.
Delegates from throughout the world will be treated to a selection of north-east specialities and the council has contributed to the cost of kitting out around 250 food-serving staff with new uniforms promoting local produce.
Seafood including smoked haddock, salmon and prawns, will be served in the six main dining areas throughout OE and promotional banners will feature north-east skipper John Buchan, whose catch is highly prized by event supplier King Foods.
The banners will also carry details of the responsible fishing scheme to highlight the conservation efforts of Scottish fishermen.
It is the third time the council has worked with the AECC to promote locally-produced food at the biennial OE event.
Council’s infrastructure services committee, chairman Peter Argyle said: “Aberdeenshire is responsible for a large part of Scotland’s seafood industry and produces a huge range of high-quality food.
“With tens of thousands of delegates visiting Offshore Europe from across the world, this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase what we have to offer and get people excited about the high quality and wide variety of seafood coming from Aberdeenshire.”
Committee vice-chairman Alan Buchan, said: “The fisheries industry is vital to the ongoing success of the north-east economy.
“I am pleased to hear we are once again working in partnership with the AECC to take advantage of a prime opportunity to deliver examples of some of Aberdeenshire’s finest food products to an international delegation.”
AECC managing director Brian Horsburgh said he was keen to showcase the range of food and drink produced locally to visitors at OE and all other gatherings at the north-east’s biggest event venue as it helped to reinforce the facility’s sustainability policies.
