It’s not just oil workers that walk to work – onshore rigs can too.
This remarkable time-lapse video shows how a Middle East rig can be moved around the drilling site, ‘walking’ from location to location as required.
The 800-tonne rig is moved 15 metres through hydraulic units which lift and carry the unit to where it is needed.
Walking oil rigs are increasingly used for multiple drilling on sites, replacing the need to dismantle and reassemble units and saving time on smaller operations such as US shale fields.
