The former head of the UK’s nuclear regulation body is to join Amec as the project management firm looks to expand its atomic power programme.
Mike Weightman joins the engineering group as a consultant as Amec ramps up its growth in the global nuclear energy sector.
The former UK chief inspector of nuclear installations, Dr Wightman advised the government in the wake of the Fukushima accident and led the International Atomic Energy Agency’s visit to the disaster site in May 2011.
“He is a recognised authority on nuclear regulation and safety with wide experience of all aspects of the nuclear industry,” said Clive White, president of Amec’s clean energy arm.
“His role with Amec will support the development of all our nuclear businesses from new build through operations to decommissioning, as we look to grow our already strong position in the UK and globally.”
Amec has been providing engineering and construction management on the Bruce A nuclear plant restart in Canada, and site management at Sellafield.
