A North Sea accommodation service vessel involved in the salvage operation of the wrecked Costa Concordia is now looking for a new charter.
The Costa Concordia partially sunk off the western coast of Italy after striking a rock in the Mediterranean in January 2012; out of 4,252 passengers and crew on board 30 had died.
The ASV Pioneer, part of the Ferguson Group fleet of offshore support vessels, had worked on the salvage contract since October 2012, providing offshore accommodation for around 90 team members and deck space for diving and grounding equipment.
“The Pioneer has already demonstrated its versatility, with its most recent involvement on the Costa Concordia Mediterranean salvage mission,” said Mike Melville, Ferguson Group commercial director.
“The large, open deck space and the high quality accommodation offered by the ASV Pioneer demonstrated that the vessel is an extremely flexible solution for offshore projects, across a wide range of industries and many global locations.”
In previous projects ASV Pioneer was modified to fulfil a charter in the North Sea. Currently the vessel is berthed in the Mediterranean awaiting a new contract.
