Up to 800 workers building an £800million gas plant on Shetland are set to go on strike Friday after rejecting a “generous” offer from oil services giant Petrofac.
The long-running dispute centres on workers having to share rooms in a 850-bed accommodation block near the site where French oil giant Total is developing the project.
Both Unite the Union and GMB have been campaigning for extra pay for men having to share rooms at theblock, Sella Ness, and for the long travel time – thought to be up to two hours each day.
Petrofac, the main contractor, put an offer to the unions Tuesday thought to include compensation of up to £5,500 for men working for the longest amount of time on the site.
