BP has announced a new chief scientist after the US department of energy lined up a bid to land her predecessor.
Dr Angela Strank is to take over from Dr Ellen Williams as the chief scientist at the British supermajor, and will oversee the company’s approach to science and technology developments.
The Manchester University graduate, who will take over the role at the beginning of May, will replace Dr Williams, who has been nominated as director of the US Department of Energy’s advanced research projects agency.
She has worked for BP for more than 30 years, joining as a geologist in 1982. Most recently she has been joint head of chief executive Bob Dudley’s office. In 2010 she won the First Women award for science and technology.
“Angela’s technical expertise and leadership experience range right across BP’s businesses – from geology and exploration to tribology and fuel formulation,” said Dudley.
“This gives her a deep understanding of how science and technology remain central to all that BP does and I know that Angela will help keep BP at the forefront of scientific development and its application.”
