Golf legend Bernard Gallacher has helped a leading North Sea oil producer raise more than £71,000 for charity.
The star and his wife Lesley turned out for the annual golf day organised by EnQuest at the Fairmont Course in St Andrews, which involved more than 150 golfers from 31 energy companies.
The event took place at the Fairmont Course in St Andrews.
The money raised from the golf day, as well as a raffle and auction, will be split between EnQuest’s nominated charities – the Paul Lawrie Foundation and Archway – and Gallacher’s defibrillator campaign, Play Golf – Help Save Lives.
The former Ryder Cup captain set up the organisation after he suffered a cardiac arrest at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa in Aberdeen last August.
He believes he owes his life to the fact the premises had a defibrillator and he is now aiming to equip every golf club and driving range in the UK and Ireland with one by the end of the year.
“I’d like to express my sincere thanks to all those involved in the event and for raising such an amazing amount of money for three worthwhile charities,” he said.
Falck Safety Services donated 10 defibrillators which were sold as part of the fundraising effort on the day.
