Subsea UK has appointed the managing director of Aker Solutions to its board.
Matt Corbin brings in 20 years of experience in the subsea sector, having started his career as a graduate engineer with Aker.
He held a number of senior industry positions in the UK, Singapore and Norway, including at GE Oil & Gas and Vetco Gray Drilling Systems, before returning to Aker in 2012 to take over the helm of the subsea business.
“Our board plays a crucial role in shaping and implementing our strategy to ensure that the UK remains at the forefront of global subsea skills and expertise,” said Bill Edgar, chairman of Subsea UK’s board.
“At present Britain has around 45% of the global market but as the competition in international oil and gas provinces increases, we need to stay ahead of the game through greater collaboration between industry, academia and government and through initiatives that help our member companies exploit overseas markets.
“Matt’s North Sea and international experience with companies of scale will bring an added dimension to the existing breadth and depth of expertise on our board.
“Our ability to attract the heavy-hitters in the subsea industry is a reflection of how well regarded and how vital Subsea UK is.”
This appointment brings the number of Subsea UK board members to 12, including the heads of subsea at BP, Chevron and Shell and decision-makers from Subsea 7 and Bibby Offshore.
