The Press and Journal is proud to announce the launch of its first North Sea industry Gold Awards.
The event, run in association with the paper’s sister website Energy Voice and title sponsor Aberdeen Asset Management, marks a major milestone for the vital oil and gas sector – the 50th year of Aberdeen’s involvement in the development of the North Sea.
The special awards ceremony, which will include the introduction of an industry-first Hall of Fame, is truly a celebration of unrivalled resilience, perseverance and triumph.
Despite current market tensions, the awards ceremony is also a vote of confidence in the industry’s ability to carve out a successful path over the next 50 years.
If this sector has demonstrated anything over the past five decades, it is an ability to innovate beyond barriers, navigate ever-deepening depths and rally in challenging times.
The UK’s North Sea has truly set the global standard.
The Gold Awards have been designed to recognise the influential players who made the industry what it is today and highlight the rising stars the judges feel will make a tangible difference to its future.
Above all it is a night to celebrate the sector’s unwavering spirit.
Press and Journal editor Damian Bates said: “The Press and Journal has chronicled and celebrated the many highs, and commiserated the lows, of an industry that has had a dramatic and unparalleled effect on each and every one of our lives.
“We are a critical friend to the oil and gas sector; we support the incredible work undertaken to ensure a global energy supply but also provide the necessary scrutiny of its operations that everyone would expect.
“In this, the industry’s 50th year in the North Sea, it’s important that the Press and Journal steps back and, for the first time, celebrates the amazing achievements the people involved in this dynamic industry have produced in our own backyard.
“The night will be fabulous and enable us all to remember the good times of yesteryear, and, just as importantly, look forward to the coming decades and celebrate the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs who will drive the sector onwards.”
There are six categories companies and individuals can enter, including Most Influential Business of the Past 50 Years, Most Influential Business of the Next 50 Years, Emerging Leader, Global Impact, Innovation of the Past 50 Years, Innovation for the Future and the inaugural Hall of Fame accolade.
The new awards ceremony will be held on Friday, June 5 at the Marcliffe Hotel in Aberdeen.
From today, category hopefuls can apply by visiting www.pandjgoldawards.com. Submissions will be easy and free of charge. The closing date for entries is May 8.
A panel of esteemed judges will also name the first ever Hall of Fame recipient on the night.
The winner will be someone who can demonstrate a proven track record of being an industry force for good. Dedication to the sector’s success, investment in its people and an appreciation for the wider community will all be considered.
The glittering event will feature an evening packed full of entertainment.
Andrew Laing, deputy chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management, said: “The Gold Awards will recognise the significant impact that energy related businesses in Aberdeen have had on the global economy over half a century.
“We are proud to support the Press and Journal as it honours those who have made impressive contributions to the success of the city and the north-east, and whose ingenuity will ensure that the region continues to grow and prosper.”
The night also aims to recognise the wider community, which has supported the sector through both its ups and downs.
As such, husbands, wives and partners are encouraged to come along and be part of this fantastic celebration.
As the hopes of the industry’s longevity rest firmly on the next generation’s very capable shoulders, companies are also strongly encouraged to include at least two young members of the team who represent that future on each corporate table.
A table of 10 costs £1,500 + VAT. The website, www.pandjgoldawards.com, is live for bookings. Alternatively, Rachael Duff can arrange for tables to be ordered on 01382 575965 or e-mail rduff@ajl.co.uk.
Mr Bates added: “We are incredibly proud of the past 50 years and equally confident and encouraged of what’s to come in the next 50. Come celebrate with us everything that makes this industry great.”
