A number of prominent women have taken to the helm of major companies this year.
The most recent appointment is that of Gretchen Watkins who will replace Jakob Bo Thomasen as chief executive of Maersk Oil.
It comes after the Danish firm announced a shake-up of the company with a group split.
Prior to her new role, Watkins served as chief operating officer for the company for more than two years.
Her new role comes just weeks after Statoil selected a second female to take over the company’s UK managing director role.
Hedda Felin made her first public appearance at the opening of the company’s new headquarters in Aberdeen earlier this week.
She took over her role from Tove Stuhr Sjoblom who stepped down to take on two new challenges after just under a year in the role.
Felin previously held the role of vice president for safety and sustainability in Statoil’s business area for global exploration.
In July, Colette Cohen was named as the chief executive of the new Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC).
The career veteran, who left Centrica as part of a management restructure, took up the post this month.
Cohen has 25 years’ experience in the sector.
She will be responsible for developing the centre’s strategic direction.
