Offshore drilling giant Seadrill has announced Per Wulff will take over as the company’s new chief executive after the current incumbent quit to join a technology firm.
Fredrik Halvorsen is to leave his role at the end of the month to join technology investment company Ubon Partners.
Wulff, chief operating officer and executive vice president since 2009, joined the company from Maersk where he had been managing director of its contracting arm in Norway.
Seadrill chairman John Fredriksen paid tribute to Halvorsen’s work as chief executive since joining the company three years ago.
“His track record of managing organizational change brought a much needed skillset to our businesses, including the successful transition of Seadrill Management from Norway to London this year,” he said.
Wulff will remain COO as well as chief executive for the time being, with some functions of the job being shared among other executives, including chief finance officer Rune Magnus Lundetrae.
“This is being done in order for Mr. Wullf to maintain maximum focus on Seadrill’s expansion and operation,” said Fredriksen.
“Since joining Seadrill in 2009, Mr. Wullf’s focus on operational performance during a period of phenomenal growth has allowed Seadrill to establish a track record of delivering safe and efficient operations for its customers. He has established strong relationships and an excellent reputation among our major customers and vendors.”
