Oil and gas industry skills and standards body Opito has appointed a new director of communications at its Aberdeenshire headquarters.
James Hamilton has taken on the role after five years working in the United Arab Emirates as Opito’s Middle East and Africa standards and approvals manager and then its international workforce development manager.
He has returned to the UK to lead the marketing and communications team.
As department director at Opito’s Portlethen HQ, Mr Hamilton will oversee and implement communications strategies to build on recent campaigns such as the organisation’s UK-wide National Oil and Gas Skills Week.
Opito UK managing director John McDonald said: “Communication is vital to any relationship and having James leading our team strengthens our partnership with the oil and gas industry to deliver high standards for safety and training.
“We are quick to adapt to the needs of oil and gas businesses and what we have seen is a growing demand for our services and support.
“Having been with Opito for over eight years, James brings a wealth of global experience and knowledge of how the oil and gas industry operates and of the challenges it faces.”
Mr Hamilton said: “Opito has always listened to the oil and gas industry to enable us to lead and set objectives.
“I’m pleased to take up this new role, which demonstrates how dedicated we are to engaging with the sector throughout these challenging times.”
