A report published by the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has found that – among other renewable rises – onshore wind generation rose by 50%.
Renewable energy generation increased overall again for 2017, with wind the pack leader in terms of energy generation.
Published today, the BEIS renewables report states that the increase in energy generation of UK onshore wind showed a 50% surge between 2016 and 2017.
The 2.0TWh increase, the most significant of all renewable technologies, is due to increased capacity over the time period.
Offshore wind also saw a significant 22% rise in generation from last year.
The overall rise in renewables electricity generation share increased also from 25.3% in 2016 to 29.8% in 2017, a rise of 4.4%.
Renewable capacity was up almost across the board for 2017, with solar PV showing one-third of all renewables capacity.
As of the second quarter of 2017, Bioenergy had the greatest share in terms of overall generation numbers (34%), with onshore wind at 27%, offshore wind and solar PV with 18% and hydro power at 3.7%.
