Vattenfall has confirmed that Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm is on schedule to be commissioned and producing electricity by summer 2018.
Adam Ezzamel, project director of the development, outlined the situation by affirming that the project was “in the final stages” of its construction campaign.
He also stated that much of the onshore fabrication is “nearing completion” and five jackets are ready to be transported.
Jackets were plannedĀ for delivery in late 2017 but Ezzamel confirmed that minor transport issues had arisen.
Ezzamel confirmed that Vatternfall are “looking to generate first power in the month of April” and that the wind farm “ought to be fully commissioned in the late summer.”
He said:”Offshore we started export cable works yesterday. Vattenfall’s first and the industry’s second 66KV submarine cable is quite a significant milestone for the industry. The first batch of turbines to arrive for installation at the end of March.
“We have effectively two construction sites, we have Black Dog in Aberdeenshire and we have the offshore site. The onshore site is a substation, a 66KV substation which will be jointly operated by Vattenfall and SSE. Work on that is entering its final stages.
“We’re entering the commissioning phase very shortly. The grid transformer arrived on site from Hungary. Really we should be energised in late March early April.”
